| FERMISCAN RESEARCH PROJECT
In keeping with our policy of being actively involved in breast cancer research the Sydney Breast Clinic is participating in a world first innovative test for the detection of breast cancer using hair.
The test owned by Fermiscan is based on analysing the molecular structure of a person's hair. The breakthrough technology that underpins the Fermiscan Test is the discovery by an Australian scientist that breast cancer changes the structure of hair and that this change can be detected by using a technique known as synchrotron X-ray diffraction.
The Sydney Breast Clinic will participate in the clinical trials by being part of the prospective blind study. Commencing in April patients are being offered the opportunity to participate in the trial by allowing around 10 strands of hair to be collected and sent for analysis.
This research offers women of all ages the potential of a non-invasive test for the early detection of breast cancer.
