A referral is required for a patient to attend Sydney Breast Clinic.

A referral is required as it explains the symptom or reason a patient attends the clinic and also ensures the patient is eligible for a Medicare rebate on some services.

Referral – Period of validity

To be eligible for a Medicare rebate each visit to Sydney Breast Clinic requires a new referral.

A referral from a GP for a consultation is valid for a period of 12 months. A referral for a consultation from a Specialist is valid for 3 months.

A referral for imaging studies (e.g. mammogram and/or ultrasound) is only valid for 7 days from the date of your first visit to Sydney Breast Clinic.

All imaging must be performed within 7 days of first presenting the referral to SBC.
