Dr Fiona Long graduated from the University of New South Wales with honours in1994. She then went on to complete her internship and residency at the St George and Sutherland Hospitals. After a brief career in Sports Medicine, she decided to dedicate herself to General Practice. She undertook a Diploma in General Practice at Monash University before completing her Fellowship in General Practice in 2000. She spent over twenty years in General Practice, with areas of interest including women’s health, paediatrics, adolescent health and sports medicine. During this time, she also developed her skills as a mentor and supervisor, teaching both medical students and GP Registrars.
It washer particular interest in women’s health that led Fiona to join the team of Breast Physicians at Sydney Breast Clinic in 2019, as she wanted to hone her skills in a more specialised area vital to women’s health. Here she works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care, consulting patients about all aspects of breast medicine, undertaking risk assessment inpatients with increased risk factors for breast cancer, performing a range of biopsy procedures as part of the diagnostic work-up in patients with a breast lesion, and providing comprehensive advice and management plans for the full spectrum of breast conditions.
She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and completed all requirements to become a Fellow of the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians in 2025.
In addition to her work at Sydney Breast Clinic, Fiona also consults at the Breast Care Centre with Prof Cindy Mak and Dr Sussanah Graham at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and at Integrated Specialist Healthcare in Miranda where she provides breast health checks, breast implant checks, and assesses patients with any breast symptoms or concerns. She also assists Dr Elisabeth Rippy, an oncoplastic breast surgeon at St Vincent’s Private, getting valuable insight into the surgical management of breast cancer, and other breast lesions.
