Dr Mousina is an Australian trained General Surgeon, subspecialised in Breast Surgery, and joined the Sydney Breast Clinic clinical consultant team in 2023.
After completing a Medical Science degree at the University of NSW in 2002, Railya went on to research oncogenic viruses in breast, prostate and endometrial cancers, receiving First Class Honours for her thesis in 2003. She went on to attain a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney in 2008. Dr Mousina commenced her junior doctor training at Prince of Wales /St. Vincent’s Hospital network in 2009. Subsequently she obtained her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2017.
In 2018 Railya worked as the Surgical Superintendent at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) in Sydney and in the breast unit at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse where she cemented her interest in oncoplastic breast surgery and breast reconstruction. Dr Mousina commenced postgraduate BreastSurgANZ fellowship training in breast surgery at the Mater, Hornsby, Northern Beaches and Royal North Shore hospitals in 2019. During this time she also worked as a Melanoma Fellow at the Melanoma Institute of Australia, and in the largest Sydney public hospital breast unit at Westmead Hospital in 2020.
Railya has worked as a clinical lecturer at the Central Clinical School at the University of Sydney and has mentored a number of general surgical registrars. In 2021 she successfully attained her Masters of Advanced Surgery (Breast Surgery) at the University of Sydney and completed an innovative project on 3D printing in breast cancer surgery. She works as a VMO Surgeon for BreastScreen NSW and operates at Prince of Wales Private and Strathfield Private Hospitals.
