BREASTEST plus™ - A new blood test for women with dense breasts to help rule out breast cancer.

BREASTEST plusTM

BREASTEST plusTM is a non-invasive blood test designed by Australian Biotechnology company BCAL Diagnostics, and is now available at Sydney Breast Clinic. The test is designed to be used alongside standard breast imaging such as mammography, to help rule out the presence of breast cancer for women with confirmed breast density D

Breast density refers to the amount of glandular and connective tissue compared to fatty tissue seen on a mammogram.1 Dense breast tissue appears white on a mammogram – similar to cancers – making detection of cancers more challenging.2 Research shows that higher breast density not only masks cancers in mammograms but is also an independent risk factor for developing breast cancer.3

BREASTEST plusTM measures the changes in lipids that are associated with breast cancer. These changes provide valuable insights to support your doctor in screening for breast cancer.

BREASTEST plusTM provides additional information to imaging to help “rule out” cancer, reassure women with a normal results and help inform the next steps of your screening. Over 1,700 Women worldwide have participated in clinical studies to develop BREASTEST plusTM

BCAL Diagnostics is an innovative biotechnology company based in Sydney, committed to enhancing women’s health through early and precise breast cancer detection.

How to access BREASTEST plusTM at SBC?

BREASTEST plusTM can be performed either before or after imaging, provided that the imaging occurs within 3 months of the test.

If you already have a scheduled SBC appointment or are intending on having imaging done at the clinic, the test should be taken at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment so that the doctors may receive your results before your consultation:

  1. Contact SBC to have your eligibility checked for your upcoming appointment
  2. If eligible, one of our SBC Doctors will facilitate the completion of a Test Request Form for you
  3. Follow patient instructions on the Test Request Form to have your test completed
  4. Results will be discussed with you in your scheduled SBC appointment

If you would like BREASTEST plusTM, have had a mammogram elsewhere within the last 3 months and do not intend on further imaging with the SBC:

  1. Contact SBC to enquire about having BREASTEST plusTM
  2. If you meet all other eligibility criteria and have had previous mammograms, a member of our clinical staff will retrieve your mammographic results and confirm your density.
  3. If eligible, a Test Request Form will be provided to you with instructions on completing your blood test.
  4. You will receive your results 2 weeks after blood collection via further consultation with an SBC Clinician.

If you would like BREASTEST plusTM, have never had a mammogram or we are unable to confirm eligibility over the phone:

Note: You will need a mammogram in order to confirm breast density and eligibility

  1. Come in for a consultation with an SBC specialist
  2. Your eligibility will be assessed
  3. Further imaging in the clinic may be undertaken as appropriate

What will the BREASTEST plusTM report mean for me?

Your BREASTEST plusTM report will give you either a Normal or Elevated results, which will also be accompanied with a score between 0-100. Your SBC specialist will interpret these results alongside your imaging results and any relevant clinical history and risk factors.

Patient preparation before taking the test

Patients must fast for at least 8 hours prior to the blood test including drinks other than water. Patients can drink water and take their routine medication.

How much does it cost?
